Alan Nero is a veteran baseball agent and Managing Director of Octagon Baseball, with a career spanning over four decades. He has represented numerous MLB stars and managers, including Joe Maddon and Dave Martinez, and has been instrumental in expanding Octagon’s global baseball footprint, particularly in Asia. Known for his mentorship and integrity, Nero has helped shape the modern landscape of player representation.

Alan Nero is a pioneering figure in baseball representation, with a career that has significantly influenced the evolution of the sports agency industry. As Managing Director of Octagon Baseball, Nero has overseen the representation of a vast array of MLB talent, including players and managers, while expanding the agency's reach both domestically and internationally.
Nero's journey began in the late 1960s as a wrestling coach at the University of Rhode Island. In 1969, he transitioned into the financial services sector, founding his own business in Rhode Island. His passion for coaching and mentorship eventually led him to the world of sports representation in 1977, where he found a new avenue to guide and support athletes.
Throughout his career, Nero has been recognized for his commitment to integrity and the development of young talent. He has mentored numerous agents within Octagon, fostering a culture of ethical representation and long-term client relationships. Under his leadership, Octagon's baseball division has grown to represent over 250 clients, including more than 50 major leaguers.
Nero's influence extends beyond the United States, as he has played a pivotal role in expanding Octagon's presence in Asia. His efforts have been crucial in identifying and supporting international talent, facilitating their transition to Major League Baseball.
In 2008, Nero's agency, CSMG, was acquired by Octagon, further solidifying his position as a leader in the industry. He continues to serve as Managing Director, working alongside his son, Lou Nero, who was appointed Co-Managing Director of Octagon Baseball in 2025.
